Grain Elevator and Processing Society Awards AFC Safety Award

Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) is an international professional society dedicated to providing its members with a forum to generate leadership, innovation and excellence in grain-related industry operations. This safety award recognizes all employees of AFC Grain, operated by Alabama Farmers Cooperative, for completing 92,409 working hours without a lost-time injury or illness during calendar year 2010. As part of safety awareness, Alabama Farmers Cooperative’s Grain Department held toxin-testing training classes like this one on April 12, 2011, at the Decatur scale and grain inspection office on Church Street Employees from AFC member stores who purchase grain as well as grain division locations were encouraged to attend. Participants were given step-by-step instructions on testing for toxins in wheat and corn, and provided the most recent testing equipment by Neogen. A representative from Neogen was present to provide the hands-on training and to answer questions.
