Annual Rodeo Roundup Features Taste of Alabama

Members and guests of the Alabama Agribusiness Council (AAC) gathered in Montgomery to enjoy a variety of local food during the Annual Rodeo Roundup and Taste of Alabama. Guests arrived at the State Farmers Market Retail Shed and found it completely transformed into a Western festival complete with cow skulls, boots, spurs, hats, ropes and hay. This event has become a favorite as attendees enjoy "All You Can Eat Taste of Alabama" before moseying over to the Southeastern Livestock Exposition (SLE) IPRA National All-Region Finals Rodeo.

To kick off the event, the sweet ladies from Barber’s Dairy Goodness Team greeted guests with a plate full of party dip and chips. Our friends from Morgan Creek Vineyard were on hand to host a wine tasting showcasing a variety of their wines. AAC was pleased to welcome its special guests Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries John McMillan and Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb to this annual event.

Next, guests had a chance to enjoy the buffet stocked with the finest foods Alabama has to offer. Volunteers were busy outside grilling Conecuh Sausage and frying the catfish donated by the Alabama Catfish Producers. Grilled and fried chicken strips and wings donated by Marshall Durbin filled the air, while on the inside the Alabama Meat Goat Producers served up goat over a bed of rice. Pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon was served by the Alabama Pork Producers. Zeigler Meats provided the bacon for BLTs, and the chicken and bacon wraps were prepared by Wilton’s Catering in Auburn.

As if the plates weren’t already full, Joe and Patty Lambrecht with Oakview Farms provided a bowl full of their stone mill grits, and Val Ivey shared a taste of his renowned coleslaw. Sister Schuebert treated guests to her famous "pigs in a blanket," and Milo’s Tea offered up their famous beverage to help it all go down!

Guests were urged to save room for a full array of desserts from Priester’s Pecan including mini pecan pies, divinity, bravo brownies, pralines and pecan logs!
