Happy New Year!!! In 2007, I Resolve Again to -

When I walked into the Flat Rock General Store Monday morning, Slim welcomed me with a hello; then he followed that hello with a question. "Do you know that ought seven is practically here?" At that moment, he handed me a piece of butcher paper and a red marker.

"Now do you want to give me yours?" He was referring to my New Year’s resolutions. It was time again for that yearly tradition down at the Flat Rock General Store – to post along the back wall, near the old pot bellied heater and gathering area, the resolutions of any individual near or far who is willing to participate.

It was clear that I had fallen behind; there were a bunch of New Year’s resolution lists already posted. Includin’ most all The Store regulars startin’ with Bro., Ms. Ida, The widow Cora, Essex, Farlow, Willerdean, "Truth" and Estelle, my Daddy "pop" C.C., Heath and Dustin, S.R., J.R., " Hatch" and Harley Hood. Of course, there were lists from other community and area Flat Rock folk.

As I took a quick scan of the list I was amazed at, no not the names, but the length of many of the lists. It appeared that many of the names with their attached lists were more like a personal confession of their failures in 2006. I don’t think there was a single individual list with less than a dozen resolutions for 2007.

There was one resolution on all the lists on the wall, and you can probably guess what that particular one was – yes dieting. Some were more specific, lose twenty, thirty pounds.

Another favorite was exercise, combined with lose weight – one listed fifty pounds plus. Yes, exercise was on several of the already posted list.

I refuse to name any names, but there were all kinds of listed resolutions. They included a lot of varied topics: political, religious, personal, family, money, food, cooking, work, sports, companionship, hunting, travel and many many more.

The attached list contains some of the more routinely used/posted resolutions and just might offer something for you to draw from, that is if you yourself are into resolutions.

Remember this list comes from all those list posted down at the Flat Rock General Store and not from me or any other single person or an individual list.

1. DIET/LOSE WEIGHT, VARYING AMOUNTS

2. EXERCISE/LOSE WEIGHT, AS MUCH AS FIFTY POUNDS

5. SAVE SOME MONEY/SPEND LESS

In the interest of time you might just want to check a few from the list above, maybe add two or three of your own, sign it and put it a safe place. During the year, pull it out from time to time just to see how you are holding up in 2007. But only if you are into yearly resolution lists.

Yes, when December of 2007 rolls around we will do it all over again down at the Flat Rock General Store.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

HAPPINESS THROUGHOUT 2007!!!

REMEMBER YOUR HERITAGE!!!

ALWAYS THINK GOOD MEMORIES!!!
