Episode 1: August 2nd and 3rd
Jim makes a drive down to the Gulf Coast substation of the Alabama Agricultural Research and Experiment Station where he visits with Malcolm Pegues to learn about satsuma production in Alabama.
Grace also travels to South Alabama to visit with cattle showman, Reba Hicks, from Slocomb. During her visit, Reba shares her showmanship secrets and the preparation required to get her heifer, "Chanel," ready for the showring.
Chuck heads south of the border to Rancho Ala Blanca in Abasolo, Mexico, to discuss dove management and also participates in some fantastic wing shooting.
Episode 2: August 9th and 10th
Jim travels just outside of Anniston to the small town of Alexandria where he meets David Wright of Wright Dairy. David shows Jim around his farm and facilities allowing him to see, first hand, the operation of a successful dairy. The Wright’s are the only dairy-farming family in the state who milks cows, bottles the milk and sells the milk all on the farm.
Grace heads to the State Capital, home of Alabama’s annual Southeastern Livestock Exposition (SLE) and Rodeo held each spring. Alabama residents may know all about the rodeo, but there’s a lot more to the SLE than bucking bulls. Watch as Grace goes behind the scenes to discover all this event has to offer.
Chuck and Kevin Rhoades, The Management Advantage Consulting Service, demonstrate how to properly electro-fish a farm pond. They discuss how to take the information gained from an electro-fishing survey to create a proper management plan.
Episode 3: August 16th and 17th
If you’re a dog lover, then you’ll enjoy Jim’s visit with James Thomas, owner of Valley Kennels in Slocomb. James is a renowned Border Collie trainer who got interested in herd dogs back in 1979. He’ll show how to successfully work cattle with a dog team using voice commands.
Grace heads to Sand Rock to meet with the Bailey Brothers, three talented young men who share a passion for farming, FFA and bluegrass music. These three young men show off their musical abilities and recall their childhood growing up on their Sand Mountain farm.
Chuck turkey hunts in Elmore County and discusses proven techniques to harvest pressured Alabama gobblers.
Episode 4: August 23rd and 24th
Jim is at Oakview Farms Granary near Wetumpka to talk to Joe and Patty Lambrecht about how they make the gourmet stone ground corn meal, grits, whole wheat and unbleached flours they sell to some of the finer restaurants in Alabama and to the general public via walk-in traffic and mail order.
Grace visits with Agriscience Education teacher Kelly Pritchett of Goshen High School to learn more about the new Ag Academy in Pike County. Here students can further their agriscience education to better prepare them for careers in the agricultural industry or to pursue an advanced degree in agriculture.
Chuck and Don Keller, American Sport Fish, discuss the benefits of using fertilizer to improve the quality of fish found in a farm pond or lake.
Episode 5: August 30th and 31st
Jim heads to Marion County to visit with world-renown potter Jerry Brown. Having hand-crafted stoneware pieces displayed in the Smithsonian Institute, this ninth generation craftsman shows us how to throw a pot with clay dug from a 110-year-old pit near his house and then ground by possibly the last mule-driven clay mill in the United States.
Grace travels back to Montgomery where she makes a visit to the Alabama Cattlemens’ Mooseum. Watch as elementary students from Zion Chapel learn more about cattle and the beef industry through interactive and creative learning stations.
Chuck and Brian Sheppard discuss the art of growing summer foods plots in Alabama. This topic is of such interest to wildlife managers throughout the state that two weeks will be devoting to this subject. Watch for the second half of this segment to air September 6th and 7th.
